Our Home Ranch Vineyard on Occidental Road and our Slusser Road Vineyard are the sources for this estate Chardonnay. The Home Ranch is planted to the Robert Young selection and Clone 5, and Slusser is planted to Clone 4. Both vineyards are managed to maximize fruit quality. We thin twice with the goal of retaining optimally-spaced clusters. We leaf to provide perfect cluster exposure to light. Irrigation is based on constant monitoring of Vine condition.

Vintage Notes
2006 was a cool season with abundant spring rains. Growth was rampant, mildew pressure was high, and there was a very large crop. We thinned to three clusters per spur, dropping large quantities of fruit on the ground to prevent disease, hasten ripening and improve exposure for better flavor. Even so, the crop was large due to heavy clusters, and we picked late. We began at the Home Ranch on October 19th, picking the Robert Young block at 24.4 Brix. The back block was picked on October 20th at 24.3 brix. Slusser Road was picked on October 25th and 26th at 24.7 brix.

2004 Simi Landslide Vineyard, Cabernet Sauvignon

ImageThe 2004 Vintage represents the fifth release of this Vineyard-designated Cabernet Sauvignon from the Simi Winery Landslide Vineyard in southern Alexander Valley , which was first planted in 1985. The Landslide Vineyard— 170-acres divided by forces of nature into three distinct sections—produces wines that reflect the extraordinary diversity of the vineyard and its dramatic geologic history.

The Landslide Vineyard is comprised of numerous soil types and microclimates created by an ancient volcanic landslide from nearby Mount St. Helena . These soil changes, combined with the pronounced diverse topography, result in variable bud break, flowering, veraison and harvest times in the different vineyard blocks.

Along with the Complexity created by the different soil types and topography, Simi has planted an assortment of varieties and clones. nine different clones of Cabernet Sauvignon, along with plantings of Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot and Malbec give winemaker Steve Reeder and his team the tools needed to create spectacular blends of the “big five” Bordeaux varitals.
